2019-20, video and sound
Visual documents could act as a unique source of memory and observation of a specific moment in time and the related cultural dynamism. This video addresses how nostalgia could transform into aesthetics through time, recurrent retouching and visual manipulation of an event (such as those originally performed by attendees of the actual event, recorded by the filmmaker, retouched by the editor, and finally recreated by an artist). The same process happens with the sound (here nostalgic music and conversations) by re-constructing it through effects of sound deceleration and acceleration.
The video has been drawn from an original wedding video taken in 1993 in Yazd, Iran. The sound consists of the 1990s Iranian pop music and background sound-effects containing conversations by a number of close family members of the bride and groom commenting on the event.
